How to hit the highest rank in Fortnite while holding your baby #BushCampDad
As 30 year old with a full time job and 2 month old baby, I knew my love for competitive gaming had come to an end.
That is until I came across a 50 year old man named BushCampDad, who reached the highest rank in Fortnite by hiding for the whole game.
And so inspired, I was off to the races.
While BushCampDad typically uses a very active hiding strategy, I had to find something else. I had a new born to care for after all.
So I picked a bush near the center of the map. That was great for a while, but it soon became clear that this was not going to work in higher ranks.
After many changes in location I eventually discovered my 2 favorite spots, which would allow me to camp for 15 minutes. While I took care of the baby.
The FloorCampDad — Under the floor of the northern most building in Restored Reels.
This spot gives the camper the advantage due to the way it snakes around in there. I can’t 1v1 a platinum player, but I’ve killed a champion player here.
On top of this fact, it also has a convenient campfire which allows you to wait for the storm to deepen before moving.
However, I eventually I got tired of having to monitor the game and thus found my final spot.
The Unreal Tree — Across from the floor camping spot, on the north side of the gas station.
While this was initially my bailout plan for when my floor spot was contested, it eventually became my go to spot. Thus I have dubbed it “The Unreal Tree”.
Due to it’s location, it’s largely protected from nitro runners and heated scopes. It also occasionally has a med supply vending machine.
End Game
There are 2 options for the end game. These options are controlled by 2 variables. “Is the storm close enough, and do I have nitro gloves”.
- ) Die of storm sickness in storm 7. This is almost always good for a top 10. This is going to be a combination of cactus running, med vending machines, and the occasional C4 fishing rod.
That’s right. Did you know C4 is actually a purple fishing rod?
2. ) If you find nitro gloves, you can head back to the the safe zone and try to make storm 8, top 5.
The reason you want nitro gloves for this, is you cannot die to the people on the edge of the circle. These are people that are going to be either your rank or lower. You want to die flying around the middle of the circle. This is where top dog is typically going to reside.
It’s almost always better to die to the storm than someone of equal rank.
Summary
Everyone on reddit said Unreal was easy. DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM. Grinding 1% per game is brutal. I almost gave up so many times.
There were times when I lost 3 hours of work in 1 game.
Plus, as I approached Unreal, there were many good players camping in the storm, and I rarely escaped when they saw me.
As the echos of these reddit posts taunted me, “it’s easy I just don’t have time”. I too found myself thinking, I could do this I just don’t want to anymore.
Yet, I know there is value in hitting the point where it’s not fun anymore and pushing forward. And so I did.
I’m not gonna lie, at the end of the day I was often left feeling like this rick and morty meme. Yeah, I do not think I will be doing this again lol.
And so I tip my hat to BushCampDad.
Sincerely,
